How To Add Quicklaunch Icons In Mandriva 2009
This might save you a few seconds if, like me, you've changed from KDE 3 to KDE 4 flavours of Mandriva. I'm finding plenty of annoying things with KDE 4...
- Make sure the task bar widgets are not locked. Right-click on a blank bit of the task bar and select Unlock Widgets if they are.
- Right-click then Menu button, and select Switch To Kickoff Style Menu.
- Find the program you want to add, or type part of its name to find it.
- Right click on it, and select Add To Panel.
Now you can change the menu style back to classic, and hopefully that saved you a frustrating few minutes...
KDE4 Desktop Icons
KDE4 works in a different way from KDE3 when it comes to placing icons on the desktop. To get the effect of placing icons on the desktop, you add the Folder View plasmoid to the desktop. To do this, right-click on the desktop. If you can select Unlock Widgets, select it. Now, right-click and select Add Widgets. Find Folder View in the list of widgets, and add it. Then, you should see a folder view on your desktop, which you can right-click on to choose which folder this is a view of. I prefer this to be a view of my home directory.
